Does anyone think the Japanese are doing a better job with horror movies these days than Hollywood? Several of last years big budget files were just remakes of lesser known Japanese movies.

I'm not big on any of the Japanese inspired horror flicks. I think Troy is the Japanese horror fan on the show.

I'm not familiar with any Japanese horror stuff. though I did watch a godzilla movie last night on sci-fi, I didn't realize they were still making them.

So far I have liked 2 Japanese horror films.
Ringu and Battle Royale.
I will say that the original Japanese ones ,while not in Hitchcock or Carpenters league, are easily as good or better than a lot of stuff from Hollywood.
To me the best stuff out of Japan will always be their animated movies.

No I dont think they are better. I think its just producers being lazy. Its really easy to just buy the rights to an already made movie that hardly any Americans have heard of and just copy it.

Listen to them. Children of the night. What music they make.

Makes me mad they remake the original and put out a watered down remake. If anything just try to do a killer dub for english and release it like that.

Pans Labyrinth proved that subtitles can work.

I've heard part II wasn't nearly as good, but I'd still like to check it out. Thanks again Santo.

I like the Hollywood remakes of Japanese horror films. I hate trying to read subtitles while I am watching a movie. I am a huge fan of Anime and I won't watch Anime in it's native language (Japanese).
