What Metal Girls Are Into – 2017
Production by: Out of Spite Productions

Three metalheads on a three day weekend to a metal fest in the desert rent a cabin from a strange man who doesn’t seem to be hiding his secrets so well. Mattie (Karina Assad), Ash (Chelsea Blechman) and Jo (Laurel Vail) are just looking for a drink fueled, head banging weekend. When they reach their weekend retreat the creepy cabin keeper Dean (Matt Mercer) seems a little too enamored with the girls. Sorry if they don’t want to hang out with some rando on their vacay. Before they even unpack the girls find a severed hand in their freezer. Unabashed the girls decide instead of spending their first day dealing with cops and locking this creep up they’ll pretend they didn’t see it so they can rock on! When they don’t show male entitlement the attention he seeks, he acts out in more vile ways.

The music in this fifteen minute rock short is spot on. Performances are kept on a comedic line of fun but serious that works. The message in actress Laurel Vail’s writing and directing debut isn’t subtle. Female empowerment against male entitlement is an excellent concept to faceoff against one another particularly in the current political climate. The in your face direction however makes the end very predictable with the final line of the film driving it home. I still had fun getting there.
