Anna and the Apocalypse – 2019
Production by: Parkhouse Pictures, Creative Scotland
Distribution by: Orion Pictures
Twas the night before Christmas and in the little town of Little Haven the zombies have arisen and they are a singing. Anna (Ella Hunt) and her friends attended high school thinking it was just another day, not knowing by school’s end they would have to kill, fight and slay. A fight for survival, civilization is gone, lives lost in a glimpse as the end of days comes for Anna and the Apocalypse.
I’m notoriously hard on British film as I find with few exceptions they’re notoriously unentertaining. This John McPhail directed film is no different for me. A zombie comedy from England sounded promising as like most people, I loved Shaun of the Dead. The cast is great, cinematography is excellent and the blood, guts and gore including a nice decapitation scene are fun to watch. A zombie Christmas musical proves to be too many sub-genre’s for this comedy horror. I absolutely despised the teen drama and musical aspects of the film. High School Musical with zombies just isn’t for me.
